Can you play it? There’s not much more to say about Fortnite that hasn’t already been said. Chances are your grandfather who can’t use a mouse has heard of Fortnite. Fortnite has become synonymous with video games to the point where whenever I tell someone I write about games they say, “Oh yeah, my [son, daughter, whatever] loves Fortnite.” To be clear, though, the adoration is warranted. We’ve never seen a game quite like Fortnite, particularly when it comes to the ever-changing map and modes. As a free-to-play game, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t try Fortnite. It’s available on every current-generation console, PC, and mobile device. The cartoonish visuals are inviting and it never takes itself too seriously. While the shooting mechanics aren’t top-notch, the on-the-fly building feature is a marvel. Plus, it’s fun to see what changes will come next to the map, as Epic continues to tell a long-running story of sorts with each major change.
Monster video strain resource game pick of the day : Though Quantum Break is undeniably a very pretty game, the reason for its ludicrous PC requirements (the unofficial ones, mind you – not the bogus, unrealistically low ones that Microsoft claims) are due almost entirely to its nightmarish lack of optimization. Few PC ports can hold a candlestick to how poorly executed this one was, at least for the first few months after its launch. With abysmal frame rates on strong graphics cards, constant driver crashes and a host of other issues, Quantum Break on PC has never been the experience it was meant to be. With that in mind, it certainly lives up to our title – if you want a gorgeous and demanding game for your PC, give this bad boy a whirl. You’ll be lucky to hit 60 fps on max settings with anything less than a NASA Pleiades supercomputer. “Recommended” specs (aim higher): CPU: 3.9GHz Intel Core i5-4690 – RAM: 16GB – Storage: 42.3GB – GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970, AMD Radeon R9 390 – OS: 64-Bit Windows 10. I like Star Wars games and usually this games are resource intensive. Before Disney pulled the plug on it in 2014, Tiny Death Star was a great little way to kill a few hours on your phone. The developers at NimbleBit built on their experience from their previous title, Tiny Tower, to serve up a Star Wars experience like no other. Adding a sense of galactic scale to the business simulation genre, players are invited to build and expand a Death Star by running virtual businesses within it. The game is surprisingly addictive and it loves to throw unexpected challenges at you. If you want to have a go, there are still ways to access the game despite its cancellation, if you know where to look. (Hint: try searching ‘how to play Tiny Death Star’ on Google.) The Rogue Squadron pilots are really the unsung heroes of the Star Wars universe, taking down two Death Stars and an army of AT-ATs, and the Rogue Squadron series rightly shines a light on them. A superb set of action-orientated flight sims, Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader was the best of the bunch. Putting you in control of practically every aerial ship at the Rebel Alliance’s disposal (as well as some Easter Egg secret craft) it looked stunning, making clever use of the Nintendo Gamecube hardware. It also had some cracking missions dotted all over the Star Wars universe, including a super-tough level over the mining planet Bespin.
