Sports professional photographer in Toronto gives a few suggestions to get the most awesome photos from a very important event of your life. Unlike an album or a highlight gallery, a full gallery will give you a better sense of your photographer’s style, as well as his or her attention to detail. Make sure these are from weddings they’ve shot in the past few months so they’re an accurate representation.

It usually takes at least a month to get all those photo proofs back from your photographer. Why? Your photographer is shooting enormous raw files far bigger than your typical JPG. Shooting raw files gives your photographer greater ability to correct the photo, but it also takes a longer time to upload, process and edit all those files (in order to correct color levels and so on). It varies, but many photographers say they spend an additional 40 hours editing images from a single wedding, so it can take up to six to eight weeks (or longer, depending on the photographer and how busy they are) to get proofs back. Here’s what to ask: How many images should I expect? Will they be high resolution or low resolution? Will I be able to get prints made myself, or does the photographer retain the rights to the images? Will the proofs I see be the retouched versions, or does that happen after I select the photos I want? Speaking of retouching, ask about retouching options and special effects (which can range from simple white balancing to beauty retouching and stylized art effects like super-saturated colors) and the additional cost for both.

Event photography tip : Don’t be afraid to have fun with posed shots. While most corporate events will want a variety of shots of attendees — both candid and posed (or “grip and grin” shots, as photographers call them) — challenge yourself to get more playful. “Often event organizers just want the ‘grip and grin,’” says Misha Vladimirskiy, a partner at Filterless.co. “That works with interesting or famous people, but when you’re doing a dinner or a speaking engagement or a fashion show, it gets repetitive. Trust your photographer’s creativity, and you’ll get images that will endure and stand alone on Instagram.”

Cut down on the editing grind: Editing an event is the worst. If you are not efficient in your workflow, you can spend twice or three times more time than it can take a seasoned editor to process photos from an event. To work efficiently, I will immediately go through an event and give the images zero, three, and five stars. Zero images are rejects, three stars are images that I probably won’t send the client but I’m unsure about, and five stars are the ones I send the client. I then go through the three stars and try to find any images that stand out and I go through the five-star images and try to knock some back down to three stars. Once you do this, you will quickly have a set of the images that you want to send the client (or for yourself) and this makes the rest of the editing so much easier.
