United Kingdom travel destinations with top Heathrow UK taxi from airport company? The mistake made by most visitors to the United Kingdom — many British citizens too, actually — is to see it as one entity. Politically that’s true. But the Act of Union in 1707 masks that this is four distinct nations: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each has its own character and frequently its own vocabulary. For outsiders that’s a holiday jackpot; it’s four countries for the price of one, each rich in heritage and gorgeous scenery in 15 national parks. England has the wonky medieval towns and stately homes among soft hills shown in films. Wales lives up to fantasies of green valleys and rugby singalongs, and its national pride and language is in rude health. Scotland, too, becomes more Scottish by the year. You’ll come for whisky and Highlands romance and you’ll discover a nation with the community spirit of the best parts of Scandinavia; no wonder, since some parts of Scotland are closer to Norway than to London. Northern Ireland is different again, a complex stew of Irish and British.

The former 1950s Bankside Power Station on a once-scruffy stretch of the Thames is now one of the most admired buildings in London and a world-class modern art gallery. The vast industrial space was put to impressive use by architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, who won a competition to design the new Tate Gallery in Giles Gilbert Scott’s original building. The Turbine Hall, a huge exhibition space that usually hosts large-scale sculptures and installations, is especially awe-inspiring. The rugged Lake District National Park in northwest England is dotted with dramatic beauty spots from craggy mountains and deep forests to shimmering lakes, but Lake Windermere is one of the most famous. At 10.5-miles (17km) long, Windermere is England’s largest natural lake and has inspired numerous poets and authors, including local lad William Wordsworth and Arthur Ransome of Swallows and Amazons fame.

If you’re looking for a mind-blowingly strong and delicious cocktail in sumptuous surroundings, this hotel bar is the right place. It’s Stanley Tucci’s go-to and was Ian Fleming’s when he was penning the Bond books. Cocktails are among the most expensive in the city, but bar snacks are fabulous. Stagger across the cobbles of St James’s on your way out (the drinks really are that strong). It’s famous for its theatrical presentation of Martinis, created from a trolley that’s wheeled to you.

The incredible Eden Project is a collection of unique artificial biomes containing an amazing collection of plants from around the world. Located in a reclaimed quarry in Cornwall, this spectacular botanical gardens complex consists of huge domes that look rather like massive igloo-shaped greenhouses. Each of these impressive (and futuristic-looking) buildings houses thousands of different plant species in tropical and Mediterranean environments. As well as these stunning displays of plant life, the Eden Project hosts numerous arts and music events year-round. If you’re able to extend your visit, consider booking a stay at the on-site hostel, or enjoy a meal in one of its restaurants. Adventure activities such as ziplining and giant swings are also available. Read even more info at Airport Taxi Heathrow.

Next up is the famous Hyde Park, the largest Royal Park considered to be located in “central” London and a favorite hunting ground of Henry VIII. Known as the city’s “green lung,” Hyde Park is home to the Diana Memorial Fountain — a tribute to the late Princess Diana, affectionately known as the “People’s Princess.” If you’d like to learn more about Diana, follow the plaques for the marked seven-mile Princess of Wales Memorial Walk around the park. For a “Wind in the Willows” experience, you can hire a rowboat on the 40-acre Serpentine lake during summer. This costs $15 per hour for adults, $6 per hour for children and is available 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. during summer. To really cool off, there’s also the Serpentine pool where you can swim during the summer. The cost is $6 for adults, $2 for children and is open 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. daily.

OH MY GOD. When you arrive in the South Terminal make a beeline for the bathrooms on the right just before you hit Boots and M&S. They are incredible! Basically each stall has its own sink, hand drier, and little storage area. They are HUGE. I’m 99.9% sure that some of them are bigger than most London apartments. I know it’s a little weird to be so impressed with a bathroom, but I have a tiny bladder so I always pay attention to them. Good job to whoever designed these! I loved the TV, it’s in the wall at the foot of the bed so it makes it super cosy and enclosed. You can book rooms for just 4hrs if you have a transfer, or as long as you need. Standard cabins start from £37 per night.
